OVERVIEW

Tutor: Valé Vincent and Helen Dunkerley

Dates: Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July 2025

Time: 10am to 3pm both days

Cost: $200 current NPW and NSP Members only. NB There will be an additional $20 for firing if required- payable directly to the tutor

Saturday - Newcastle Printmakers Workshop, 27 Popran Road, Adamstown

Sunday - Newcastle Studio Potters, Back to Back Gallery, Cooks Hill.  

This course is for members of Newcastle Printmakers Workshop and Newcastle Studio Potters. It requires a minimum of 4 participants to proceed.

Saturday 19th July Location: NPW with Valé Vincent

  • You will learn how to design, transfer, carve and print your own lino block.

  • You will take away a number of one colour prints using the workshop presses. 

  • The Lino block you create will be used on day 2 for transfer to clay using a number of techniques. 

  • All materials are provided including quality water wash-up printing inks, a 15x15cm lino block, the use of lino tools and printing equipment.

  • Bring an image or several images for inspiration or to transfer that are suitable for a graphic medium like linocut - keep images fairly simple. Consider images, patterns and shapes that could be transfered to clay. 

  • Wear paint shirt or an apron and closed-in shoes for safety. Bring your own refreshments, snacks and lunch.               


Sunday 20th July Location NSP with Helen Dunkerley

Sunday 20 July:

  • Preparing clay pieces for printing. 

  • Bring your Lino block that you carved on Day 1. This will be used for the clay component of the workshop. 

  • Explore ways to transfer your lino block image created on day 1 to clay, rolling up with underglazes and stamping. 

  • All materials and equipment are provided. 

  • Helen will also bring some plaster blocks for participants to create relief prints into clay.

  • Wear paint shirt or an apron and closed-in shoes for safety. Bring your own refreshments, snacks and lunch.

Materials
All class materials will be supplied. An additional $20 for firing if required.

Students will need to bring lunch. Tea & coffee provided. Wear covered shoes, bring an apron and be prepared to enjoy a creative weekend.

Covid Safety:

Participants must checkin, wash or sanitise their hands immediately upon entering the workshop and maintain physical distancing whenever possible during class. If you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been directed to isolate, you must not attend class.

ABOUT THE TUTORS

Valé Vincent is passionate about printmaking with a focus on lino printing, collagraphy, solar plate etching, Tetra Pak printing and fabric screen printing. Valé holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in printmaking and has been practicing, teaching and sharing her passion for printmaking over many years.  Valé is an active member at the Newcastle Printmakers Workshop and the Make Space collective in Newcastle. 

Helen Dunkerley is a passionate educator, teaching at TAFE and giving workshops at universities in Australia and USA. Go to @dunkerley.helen on Instagram to see her style and works from recent exhibitions in Sydney and the Hunter Valley.
