FAQs

  • Who should join this class?

This class is for dancers with a solid improvers foundation who want to refine technique, explore intermediate and advanced Rueda patterns, and improve musicality.

  • Do I need a partner?

No partner is required. Rueda and Salsa exercises rotate partners during class so everyone dances with multiple people, helping you improve quickly and comfortably.

  • I’ve danced Salsa elsewhere but I've never danced Rueda before — can I join?

We encourage you to firstly attend the Beginners to Improvers Class at 7 PM to work out your level before joining the Intermediate–Advanced Rueda. Each school has a different repertoire and skill level, plus you will need to learn the Rueda calls and transitions between partners. Once you feel comfortable with the class level, speak with Vivio or Justine about jumping into the Intermediate to Advanced class.

  • What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes that allow free movement — leggings, stretchy pants, or dance trousers work well. Shoes with a smooth sole or dance sneakers are recommended.

  • What should I bring?

💦 Water bottle to stay hydrated
🧴 Small towel if you like and please wear deoderant to keep your fellow dancers happy!

  • What facilities are available?

✨ Polished timber dance floor with spacious historic hall
    🚰 Kitchen for water refills
    🚻 Toilets on-site

  • 🚗 Parking and getting there

🚗 We recommend arriving 15 minutes early as Ponsonby parking can be busy around dinner time. Free street parking is available nearby, including Ponsonby Terrace (P120, up to 2 hours). Paid parking is also available at Ponsonby Central, 4 Brown Street, first 30 mins free, then $3.50/hour.

🚌 The InnerLink bus stops just a few minutes’ walk from the Community Centre.

  • Meet your teacher

Cuban trained dancers and teacher 'Vivio' Isbert Ramos Mediaceja has more than 40 years of experience teaching, and 20 years as a professional dancer with leading companies, including the acclaimed Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, Vivio combines authenticity, precision, and a welcoming teaching style.

He is supported by his partner Justine Harvey, who has been dancing for 11 years, alongside 20 years of yoga practice, and is a writer/editor and communications specialist by training.
