Talk: Anarchival collage with Zoe Sadokierski from The Social Glue of Sydney

In this illustrated talk, designer and educator Zoë Sadokierski will discuss how she uses material from natural history archives to create collages that surface marginalised voices — from a platypus in conversation with an amateur naturalist to the story of the endling dwarf emus who lived out their final days in Empress Josephine’s Parisian gardens. Whether hand crafted or digital, collage is a perfect medium for unsettling familiar images, and shifting dominant historical narratives.

This talk leads in to the ticketed hands-on-workshop where Zoe will join with the founder of The Social Glue of Sydney in making minature concertina books. Participants in that workshop will also have access to this talk. The talk runs from 2.00 - 2.30 and the workshop from 2.45 - 4.00.

Zoë Sadokierski is an Associate Professor in the UTS School of Design. She has a background in book design and illustration, and has given talks about her collage practice in universities and cultural institutions around the world.
