Event description

📣 Consumer and Community Involvement in health and medical research training

HMRI-affiliated researchers and consumer representatives who want to work well with each other, we have some excellent training for you.

We’re bringing Community and Consumer Involvement OG Anne McKenzie OAM back to the Hunter New England region for the first time since 2019! With HMRI’s Consumer and Community Involvement team, she will deliver her full-day (1.5h online + 5h in-person) course, developed together with Telethon Kids.

For this round only, this training will be free of charge (RRP $260) for HMRI affiliates and consumers who do already or want to work with HMRI-affiliated researchers on research projects. We will run this again later this year, but moving forward, there will be a cost, and you might not have Anne herself as your trainer.

This course is suitable and free for:

  • Citizens – including representatives of community organisations, people with lived experience of health conditions or illnesses, or their carers or support crew – who want to get involved in shaping the research that we run at HMRI.
  • Researchers and consumers with some experience in working together, but who have only a completed a short online module or have had no formal training.
  • Researchers who have never worked with consumers before.
  • Pre-clinical or clinical researchers.
  • Representatives of community organisations who are partnered with HMRI research programs on current projects.
  • Staff members of HMRI, UON or HNEHealth who work in a role that supports research.

If you’re not sure if this course will be right for you, please contact Gillian Mason, HMRI's Head of Public Participation and Integration to find out at gillian.mason@hmri.org.au.

All attendees are required to complete a 1.5h online training module in their own time, before their booked in-person session in either Newcastle or Tamworth.
