Event description

See the Tarwin Forest!

Located where the Tarwin River begins, the forest has cool temperate rainforest and one of the largest populations of the critically endangered Slender Tree-fern. This forest is home to many of our most loved and endangered species, such as the Gang gang, powerful owl, pilotbird and platypus. The creeks and gullies are home to endangered and rare Spiny crayfish and underground the Strzelecki Burrowing crayfish. Victoria and Stuart will lead us on an informative walk deep into the forest.
After the walk we will have lunch in the the forest gathering place where you will hear more about the conservation work Victoria and Stuart are doing. Then join local artist Kate Stuart to make small tiles from the local clay that carry the story of your experience of the forest.

This trip will depart from the Venus Bay Community Centre at 9.30 and will also pick-up in Tarwin Lower from the Riverside Hotel.

Requirements to participate: All participants are required to bring sturdy long pants and long sleeved shirt, hiking boots, gaiters (if you have them), walking poles (if you have them), sun protection, rain protection, water.

PLEASE NOTE:
The walk is in steep terrain with uneven ground and there are all the regular hazards you would find on any off-track bushwalk, like snakes, overhanging branches and tripping hazards. You will need to take responsibility for your own safety. There is no phone reception down in the gully. We have a small first aid kit and a PLB.
