Te Reo Māori Mini Course #1
Event description
Join us in the Ashburton Library, Te Kete Tuhinga, for 3 x 1.5 hour sessions learning te reo Māori basics with teacher Kate White. The course will be held on the following Tuesdays; March 5, 11 and 18, from 1pm - 2.30pm.
The main aim of this mini course is to build your confidence in pronouncing Māori words correctly.
Content covered through Mini Course # 1 includes;
- pronunciation
- greetings & farewells
- asking & answering about someone's name
- asking & answering how you are feeling
- common words & place names
Classes will be fun, friendly and interactive - suitable for all types of adult learners. You can expect relaxed but organised classes where there may be a little singing, reading and writing but more emphasis on speaking and listening activities.
Registration is required and classes will only commence if minimum numbers are booked in. The maximum class size is 15 so don't delay in booking on if you're keen. Please check you can make it to all 3 Tuesday sessions in this course before signing up. Note: this course is only for adults (16 years+).
We want to make this mini course accessible for all, so are proud to offer it for free. For those who would like to contribute to the cost of the training, there is an option when registering to give a koha/donation. Any funds received will go to Connecting Mid Canterbury (the charitable trust behind Keep Learning Mid Canterbury) and will enable the trust to run more such events in the future.
We welcome Māori and non-Māori from all walks of life - any one who would like to learn & improve their Māori language skills and confidence. Let's learn and practice together in a safe and welcoming space.
