Event description

THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR KPU FACULTY.

Facilitators: Lisa Gedak and Gillian Sudlow
Dates: 2-part series (attend both sessions)
- Mon, Nov 3, 11:00AM-2:00PM, in person, KPU Surrey campus, Arbutus 2410
- Wed, Nov 5, 11:00AM-2:00PM, online. Zoom link provided upon registration.

Educators are increasingly called upon to design and deliver courses in a variety of settings, from traditional classrooms to blended and online environments and it can be challenging to adapt teaching strategies and approaches to effectively align with the delivery model.

This two-part blended workshop is designed to help KPU educators across disciplines strengthen and adapt their teaching strategies for in-person, blended, and online delivery. Through a combination of in-person and online activities, participants will explore practical approaches to designing more inclusive, engaging, and effective learning experiences across delivery models.

Session One: Participants will explore the pedagogical foundations of in-person and blended teaching, engage in collaborative discussions about challenges and opportunities in different learning environments, and develop strategies that work across delivery models.

Session Two: Building on the first session, participants will shift into an online synchronous environment to experience and evaluate strategies for digital engagement, inclusive design, and active learning, and leave with a plan of action for application in context.

Through engaging in the activities and content of this workshop, you have the opportunity to:

Session One:

  • Explore pedagogical principles that inform effective teaching and learning across in-person and blended delivery models.

  • Identify common challenges and share opportunities for enhancing student engagement in diverse learning environments.

  • Collaboratively analyze teaching scenarios in small groups to generate adaptable strategies that support inclusive and active learning in both in-person and blended learning environments.

Session Two:

  • Engage in and evaluate various online synchronous strategies that promote student participation, collaboration, and active learning.

  • Examine inclusive teaching practices that support more equitable access and engagement in real-time online learning environments.

  • Reflect on and plan how to apply synchronous engagement techniques in context to foster more inclusive and interactive learning experiences.
