Feel good in your body

Move, connect, flow

Join Artistic Director Felicity Bott for contemporary and street groove classes designed for pure dance joy. Classes are welcoming, supportive and open to a range of experience levels. And yes, newcomers are welcome in Term 4!

6 Classes Weekly

  • FreeFlow – Contemporary
    All levels. Explore movement, connect with your body and dance at your own pace.
    Tue 5:15–6:15pm @ Ticcle | Fri 10–11am @ SOHO Arts

  • FreeFlow II – Intermediate Contemporary
    For dancers with prior contemporary experience, including phrase work, technique, floor work and improvisation.
    Fri 11am–12pm @ SOHO Arts

  • GrooveBox – Street Dance Fitness
    Fun, high-energy, easy-to-follow grooves. No pressure — just dance, sweat and feel good.
    Tue 7:15–8:15pm @ Ticcle | Thu 5:05–6:05pm @ SOHO Arts

  • GrooveBox II – Intermediate Street Dance Fitness
    For dancers who have attended GrooveBox I for two terms, building on this year's foundations.
    Tue 6:15–7:15pm @ Ticcle

Term 4

October 20 – December 12, 2026
Term 4 runs for 8 weeks, and concludes with an informal 4-hour theatre session to celebrate the term and year in the Studio Theatre at Theatre Royal on December 12. Term fees cover all.

What will Term 4 look like?
Weeks 1–8

Business as usual, with the same schedule as Term 3:

  • Three Tuesday evening classes at Ticcle

  • One Thursday evening class at SOHO Arts

  • Two Friday morning classes at SOHO

Saturday December 12 — Theatre Session

Instead of our usual classes in Weeks 9 & 10, we’ll bring together movement and material explored throughout the year for a half-day session at the Studio Theatre, Theatre Royal.

Venues

Ticcle: Tuesday classes take place at North Hobart’s vibing warehouse-style music and dance venue. Enter via the side of the building and head upstairs to the first floor. Flexible sneakers are required for all Ticcle classes.


SOHO Arts: Thursday and Friday classes are held in the much-loved Community Hall. The accessible ramp and toilet make it welcoming for dancers of all capacities. Our 10am FreeFlow class on Friday mornings is our most accessible class.

ABOUT DanceWillSaveTheWorld

DanceWillSaveTheWorld is the banner for Felicity Bott’s abiding love for dance. Felicity has worked in professional contemporary dance since 1989 as a company dancer, independent artist, choreographer, educator, Artistic Director and CEO in both Tasmania and WA. She is currently also Artistic Director of Great Southern Dance.

With 28 years of creative leadership across seven not-for-profit dance organisations, Felicity's work has been recognised through national nominations, awards, and international presentation. Highlights include six Helpmann Award nominations; an Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance Education (2006); a Churchill Fellowship (2008); WA’s prestigious Culture and the Arts Creative Development Fellowship (2009); and regional, national, and international touring of original dance-theatre works from 2001–2017.

Felicity’s dance-making for Great Southern Dance since 2019 has included: Main stage work featured on ARTWORKS, ABC iView;  Topographical residencies (Nipaluna/Hobart Rivulet and Turrakana/Tasman Peninsular) in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2025; Site Geist dance films exhibited in the open archive at the  Australian Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale; Intergenerational performance research in 2024 Hiero, and 2025 Dance Commons; Dance in the Royal Hobart Hospital as Artist-in-Residence for Inscape Arts at CRU January-June 2024; and Dance on film to seed new work about individual and collective acts of counter-dominance; performance to position us as just one species in a wide and precious world.

ABOUT GREAT SOUTHERN DANCE

Great Southern Dance is a professional dance company home-based in nipaluna/Hobart, lutruwita/Tasmania, the southern capital of the southern state of a southern continent. 

We offer DanceWillSaveTheWorld classes weekly and also create interdisciplinary professional dance that blends choreography and topography for live performance and film.

Since 2019 Great Southern Dance has employed established artists and developed talent pathways for emerging creatives, buoyed by diverse and intergenerational community connections at home and beyond.
