Winter Holiday Nature Journaling Club at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
Explore the stunning Royal Botanic Gardens of Sydney, Nature Journal in hand.
Nature journals are an accessible, hands-on way to engage people of all ages in learning, slowing down and connecting with nature. Nature journaling teaches the skills of observation, perception, inquiry (asking questions), and making connections. Through observation and wonder, explore and express your creativity using words, pictures, and numbers.
Each session will be facilitated by a Garden Educator, an inspired artist and nature enthusiast, who will guide you to different parts of the garden.
Why: Nature journaling fosters creativity, mindfulness, and a deeper connection to the natural world. It’s a fun way to slow down, bond with loved ones, and develop observation skills. Families will leave with not only lasting memories but also a newfound appreciation for nature’s wonders.
Who: The program is suitable for children aged from 6-12 years old and their families / carers. These classes are beginner friendly. No prior experience with drawing or journaling is required.
Where: Meet at the Maiden Theatre. Look out for a "Nature Journaling" sign. One of our lovely educators will be waiting for you there.
When: During the Winter School Holiday 2025 |9.30am – 11:30pm
Each Session will have a different theme and explore a new area or aspect of the Botanic Garden.

Theme: Patterns in Nature
Discover the fascinating shapes and designs found in plants, flowers, and leaves. Families will explore how patterns repeat in nature and learn how to sketch and document them creatively in their journals. - Wednesday, 16 July, 9:30-11:30am
Theme: Seasonal Changes: Winter Wonders
Explore how the garden transforms during winter. Observe unique seasonal colors, textures, and wildlife behaviors, and create beautiful journal entries to celebrate winter’s beauty.
Cost:
Per session: $45 per participating child | $40.5 for Foundation and Friends members
If buy two sessions: $85 per participating child | $76.5 for Foundation and Friends members

What to bring: You are welcome to bring your own art materials – An A5 art journal, Artline pen, lead pencil and rubber and a set of coloured pencils/watercolour pencils.
OR choose to purchase the Beginners Starter Pack ($12) with your ticket.

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. We will be walking throughout the Garden during each class, please be mindful of the hilly nature of the site and uneven surfaces. Be prepared for the weather, bring a hat, warm jacket and rain coat.
Optional: A hiking portable stool, or a pillow, or a blanket or similar for comfort sitting down to journal. A Keep cup to take a hot drink with you.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Purchase of a ticket online is final. Participants are required to bring a soft or hard copy of their online booking confirmation to the activity.
- No refunds will be issued for cancellation of tickets purchased online.
- A request for a date change can be made in writing no less than 72 hours prior to the program commencement time. The new event date must be within one month of the original booking date. Approval of a date change is at the discretion of the BGoS.
