About:

With over 20 years of operational policing experience, Keith currently serves in the Moreton District Domestic & Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Unit. For the past four years, he has specialised in the domestic and family violence space within the Moreton region.

Keith is actively involved in a range of local initiatives and maintains a strong professional network across the district, supporting the case management of high and extreme-risk domestic violence matters. Known for a proactive and solutions-focused approach, he is committed to enhancing safety for victim-survivors, reducing harm, and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable.

10.30am: Her Honour Janelle Brassington (Chief Magistrate, Brisbane Magistrate Courts)

Chief Magistrate Brassington is a graduate of The University of Queensland—Bachelor of Laws (1990).

Chief Magistrate Brassington was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1992.

Prior to appointment as a magistrate, Chief Magistrate Brassington worked with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and with the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.

Her Honour was appointed a magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Queensland on 22 August 2005 and has served in Southport, Innisfail and Cairns. On 8 October 2019 her Honour was appointed Deputy Chief Magistrate.

On 8 July 2022 her Honour was appointed a Judge of the District Court and Chief Magistrate.

11.15am: Beth Kroon, Senior Solicitor Women's Legal Service QLD

Beth has been working within Community Legal Centres for most of her career, focusing her practice on family law and domestic and family violence. Beth is working within the Domestic Violence Unit and Health Justice Partnership teams at Women’s Legal Service Qld, and provides the Domestic and Family Violence Duty Lawyer Service at Caboolture Magistrates Court. Beth is committed to ensuring women are aware of their legal options and rights when facing family law and domestic and family violence matters.

12.30pm: Angie Spencer, Director, Domestic & Family Violence Prevention Council Secretariat Department of the Premier and Cabinet (Queensland) & Bob Atkinson, AO APM.

Angie Spencer

With a diverse and successful career in the Government and Not-for-profit sectors, Angie had led strategy and delivery of external relations ranging from corporate communication, traditional and social media campaigns, signature State events, stakeholder management and strategic partnership development. For the last five years, Angie has been the driving force of the Government’s primary prevention strategy as Director of the Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Council.
A commercial thinker, Angie has significantly contributed to the generation of creative measurable outcomes and audience driven engagement.

Bob Atkinson AO APM

Bob Atkinson had a 44-year career with the Queensland Police Service, serving the last 12 years (2000 to 2012) as Commissioner. Bob’s significant achievements include overseeing responses to Cyclone Larry in 2006 and the 2010–11 Queensland flood and cyclone disasters, reductions in crime and the road toll, enforcing welfare support, advocating for multiculturalism, and increasing Police Liaison Officer positions including the first Sudanese and Muslim positions.

In 2013, he was appointed as one of 6 Commissioners for the 5-year Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. Following that he was the Chair of the Queensland Government's Truth, Healing and Reconciliation Taskforce for its 5-year term.

Bob’s contribution has continued in advisory roles for youth justice issues.

In 2023 he was appointed as one of 2 Assistant Commissioners to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
