Three Week Handbuilding & Glazing Workshop

Join me in my private pottery studio in beautiful Mangawhai for a three-session handbuilding workshop designed to give you more time to create, experiment and develop your own ceramic pieces.

This workshop is an extension of my 2.5 hour handbuilding class, with the added luxury of time. Rather than trying to create and finish everything in a single session, you'll have two dedicated making sessions to build, carve, refine and add detail to your work, followed by a final session to glaze your finished pieces.

Classes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of six people, allowing for a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of individual guidance throughout.

What you'll do

Week 1 — Make

We'll start by getting your ideas into clay. You'll have access to all of my studio tools and equipment, with guidance throughout as you build your pieces using handbuilding techniques.

You'll have up to 2kg of stoneware clay to work with, giving you plenty of scope to create one larger piece or several smaller pieces.

Week 2 — Refine & Create

This session gives you time to continue working on your pieces without the pressure of having to finish everything in one sitting.

You can keep building, carve and refine your work, add texture or experiment with underglaze decoration. You can also start something new if you've finished your first pieces.

After your second session, your pieces will be carefully dried and bisque fired in my kiln ready for glazing.

Week 3 — Glaze

Four weeks after your second making session, we'll meet for your final glazing session.

You'll have access to a selection of my studio glazes, with the option to brush them on or dip your pieces depending on the glaze and finish you're after. I'll guide you through the glazing process and help you choose combinations and techniques to get the best result from your work.

I'll then glaze fire your finished pieces, ready for collection once the firing is complete.

✨ Please note

Pottery is a beautiful but delicate craft. While every care is taken during drying and firing, occasional cracks or breakages can occur. I'll share plenty of tips throughout the workshop to help give your creations the best chance of success.

Spaces are limited to six people to keep classes small, relaxed and personal. I can't wait to welcome you into my studio and see what you create.
