In this class you will create a collage out of scrap tin and/or aluminum! You’ll learn how to safely disassemble and cut tin cans and secure the pieces to create a 8”x10” collage. Most materials will be provided, other than work gloves. If you have a hammer, needle-nose pliers and tin snips you prefer, bring them too! Students are welcome to bring in tin or aluminum to use if they wish. Moderate hand strength is required. All skill levels are welcome.
About the Artist: Thomas W. Graham
I've been playing with tin since 1994 and making tin can collages since my retirement from the practice of psychiatry 8 years ago. I work mainly with tin which has colors and images printed on it. Birds are a common subject for me because of my love of them and because I can render them to my satisfaction. I sell my work regularly at the Saxapahaw Holiday Show and at the Fearrington Folk Art Show as well at some local galleries. Am I a folk artist? Who knows? I have taken classes and workshops as an older adult but didn't study art in college.
