Extra info:

We want this to be a family-friendly event, so please be mindful of little ears.

The whole centre is open for us. You're very welcome to move between activities or step away to a quiet spot. A description of all the rooms is available here - there's also a shaded outside area and a sandpit - http://www.downercommunityasso...

In one of the big rooms we'll be talking about fighting misinformation.

In another room we'll be writing letters and cards, calling on Tim Nicholls to overturn the ban on gender-affirming care for trans and gender diverse kids in QLD. We have some craft supplies for a theme - sending him hearts, since clearly he doesn't have one of his own.

The Downer Community Centre has toilets, but unfortunately they are not accessible!

We'll have some light snacks.

We'll supply surgical masks and hand sanitiser. If you feel unwell or are a close contact of someone who has recently had COVID, please stay home!

--

Right now, trans rights are under attack. Trans kids' access to healthcare has been posted up for debate, and we need to bring our community around. It's time for all allies to join in and fight transphobia.

If you want to help, but you don't know where to start -

If you know your stuff on trans rights, but you aren't comfortable and need some practice -

If you're a seasoned trans rights enthusiast, and want to plan actions together -

Join Trans Justice Canberra at the Downer Community Centre from 6-7:30pm Sunday 16 February.

We'll be talking:

misinformation and disinformation
how our community conversations shape public opinion
strategies and tips for dealing with transphobic talking points

You'll have the option to role-play difficult conversations, particularly around why gender-affirming care for trans kids is less complicated than transphobes like to say it is.

We'll also have a side session to write to Queensland Minister for Health (Tim Nicholls MP) to lift the Queensland ban on public access to puberty blockers and HRT for under 18s.

What if I can't come on Sunday?

You can do three things right now.

Sign the petition calling on Tim Nicholls to reverse the ban on gender-affirming care - https://transjustice.org.au/ba...
Donate to Project 491, which will help the 491 trans and gender diverse kids left up the creek in Queensland get the care they need - https://registration.givenow.c...
If you're not subscribed to our mailing list already - scroll to the bottom of our webpage and subscribe so you're the first to hear about our next event - https://transjusticecanberra.c...

Housekeeping

Trans Justice Canberra is unfunded, so unfortunately we can't cater dinner - consider grabbing an early one in Dickson.
