SUMMER PRIDE SERIES! Trash-to-Fashion: Drag Rags & Pride Attire Open Studio (June, July, August)

Event description

Mark your calendars, drag and art lovers! This summer SCRAP is hosting a summer series of THREE super-fun Pride workshops leading up to our third annual Creative Reuse Drag & Fashion Show Fundraiser! 🌈 Scroll to read more!

Trash-to-Fashion: Drag Rags & Pride Attire is a five-hour open studio held in SCRAP's education space from 2-7pm on Saturday, June 15th, 12-5pm on Saturday, July 13th, and 12-5pm on Saturday, August 17th! For this year's SCRAP Creative Reuse Drag & Fashion Show Fundraiser in the second-to-last weekend in August, the category is REUSE FASHION. There will be a runway show just to showcase garments and accessories made entirely from reused materials—whether they came from SCRAP or not—and for the variety drag show that'll follow, reuse garb is required! (Side note: You don't have to plan on participating in our show in order to attend these open studios, but we ABSOLUTELY encourage participants to sign up for the runway show!!).

Creatives of all kinds are invited to come together in this collaborative, creative space and make wearable art and accessories for Pride season, swap ideas, make professional connections, make friends, and hang out with a smorgasbord of SCRAP's materials at their disposal. (Also, bring along your own works-in-progress!) We've collected a bunch of great fabrics and lots of interesting embellishments. Plus, our dress forms (multiple sizes!) and a few of our fabulous studio sewing machines will be available for use.** Come make full garments, decorative epaulets, gaudy shoulder pads, a wild headpiece, a set of pronoun pins, or perhaps a sash that announces yourself to be "World's Most Famous Drag Performer." (We won't fact check!)

**SCRAP requires that any guests hoping to use a studio sewing machine have prior experience equivalent to our Sewing Basics 1 and 2 classes (i.e. how to thread a home sewing machine, wind a bobbin, sew basic straight stitches, troubleshoot simple thread jams, and press seams using an iron). Studio guests using sewing machines should be comfortable with the correct and safe operation of domestic sewing machines. Participants are welcome to bring their own machines, so let know if you'll be bringing your own machine or if you need to sign our Sewing Machine Use Clause!

All ages.

To reserve your spot/seats in before the event, tickets for this materials-and-tools provided open studio workshop can be purchased in advance through Humanitix at a suggested cost of of $15/day, with additional donations encouraged to support our summer fundraiser. SCRAP prioritizes access to affordable art materials and expressions, so if the ticket price poses a hardship, please select the Sliding Scale ticket type on Humanitix. If you would like to contribute to someone else's ticket in addition to your own, please select the Pay It Forward ticket type and know that your contribution helps spread access to creative reuse and creative community-making! Please feel free to call the store (503-294-0769) on the day of the event if you have any questions.

All event ticket sales are final and non-refundable. If you cannot make it to the event, please feel free to send a friend in your place. If you are unable to do that, we still cannot refund your ticket, but you could think of your payment as supporting our SCRAPpy little creative reuse non-profit! We appreciate your support and understanding!
