Ethics Tune Up
Event description
ETHICS TUNE UP: ETHICS 101Â
1 MAY 6PM – 8PM AESTÂ
Would you lie to protect a friend? Do you put your life on hold to care for your elderly parent? Â
Ethical dilemmas are some of the toughest problems we will face. Thankfully, over 2,000 years of philosophical enquiry has provided us with a range of powerful tools to help solve them. This intimate, in person session will be fun, playful and interactive as it provides an introduction to ethics and looks at four of the major ethical frameworks proposed by philosophers including consequentialism, deontology, virtue ethics and ethics of care, and show you how to apply them in your life. Â
You’ll share the session with other curious participants, who are willing to delve deeper into the mess and complexity of what it means to be human.Â
ETHICS TUNE UP: ANCIENT WISDOM FOR EVERYDAY LIFEÂ
8 MAY 6PM - 8PM AESTÂ
Even though they lived over 2,000 years ago, the wisdom of ancient philosophers is still relevant today. This workshop will introduce you to three prominent ethical perspectives from the ancient world, including Epicureanism, Stoicism and Daoism, and show you how you can apply them to live a better and more fulfilled life. Â
This intimate, in person session will be fun, playful and interactive where we hope to unlock the wisdom in the room as well as leave with new insights. You’ll meet other curious people, who are willing to delve deeper into the mess and complexity of what it means to be human.Â
ETHICS TUNE UP: ETHICAL BLIND SPOTSÂ
15 MAY, 6PM - 8PM AESTÂ
We all think of ourselves as ethical people. But even the most principled of us are likely to have blind spots simply due to the way our minds work. This workshop will reveal the hidden workings of our moral minds, showing how unconscious forces like heuristics and biases can lead us to behave in ways that contradict our deeply held values. It will then provide useful tools to improve your self-awareness and promote more ethical behaviour. We’ll explore heuristics and biases and how they influence our choices, without us even knowing it. Plus what we can do to overcome bias.Â
This intimate, in person session will be fun, playful and interactive where we hope to unlock the wisdom in the room as well as leave with new insights. You’ll meet other curious people, who are willing to delve deeper into the mess and complexity of what it means to be human.Â
