Tween Camp 2024 - AI for Jesus
Event description
Q. What and when is Tween Camp?
A. Tween Camp is an annual 6-day program run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Tasmania for 10- 15 year olds from all over the state. It is designed to grow kids socially, physically and spiritually, as well as being great fun! It is held in the first week of the October school holidays. This year (2024) it falls from the 1sth to the 6th of October. You can follow updates and promotional material at https://www.facebook.com/TasSDAYouth/
Q. Where is it held?
A. Tween Camp is held at Spring Beach Youth Camp near Orford, Tasmania. The camp is positioned at Spring Beach and boasts dormitory style accommodation, as well as a host of amazing adventure and team building activities including abseiling, a flying fox, archery, kayaking, a low ropes course and more! You can read more about SBYC and watch a promotional video on their website: https://springbeachyouthcamp.com.au
Q. How do the kids get there?
A. An inexpensive bus will pick attendees up from North West Christian School and the Devonport, Launceston and Glenorchy Seventh-day Adventist Churches on the day the camp begins, and will return them to that spot on the day it ends. Or, alternatively, a parent or guardian can drop them off and pick them up from Spring Beach.
Q. Do the kids have to take tents and food like other church, school, scout and Pathfinder camps?
A. Tween Camp is a fully catered dormitory camp, and the 5-nights indoor accommodation with three square meals per day are included in the fees.
Q. What would a typical day look like?
A. A typical day would look something like this: wake-up call, room inspection, morning worship, breakfast, exercise time, an activity, lunch, another activity, dinner, evening worship, an evening activity, shower, lights out. It will be a very constant, full-on schedule with no need for hand-held games and other diversions.
Q. What will the kids be doing at worships?
A. Worship times typically involve songs, activities, stories, drama and sharing from our guest speaker..
Q. What kind of equipment do the kids need?
A. A fitted sheet, sleeping bag or linen, pillow, running shoes, warm clothes, older clothes that you don’t mind if they get wrecked (enough for 5 days), toiletries, towel, swimming gear and a water bottle. On Thursday night there will be a themed banquet night also where the kids will dress up. Try to find your child a costume they might be able to bring along for this night. Toy stores, second-hand shops, hardware shops, costume shops and Spotlight are all great places to get such costume items, depending on your budget.
Q. Can I trust the staff?
A. All staff are screened and have (or have applied for) a current Working with Children and Vulnerable People checks. Most of them are individuals who attended Tween Camp themselves as kids. No staff member is permitted to be alone in an enclosed cabin with a child at any stage. All staff that supervise and facilitate height-based adventure activities have current qualifications to do so.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. The standard price is $300 per child, plus $20 if they require the bus to and from camp. This includes all meals, accommodation, 100% supervision and multiple amazing adventure-style activities each day. On school holidays it can sometimes cost more than that just to keep a kid at home! HOWEVER, if you make the effort to book before the 10th of September, your child will receive the early bird price of just $270 per child (plus $20 if they require the bus). No applications will be accepted after September 23rd.
NOTE: CABIN PLACES ARE LIMITED, FIRST IN FIRST SERVED. NO APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED AFTER 23 SEPTEMBER 2024
