Presenter Bios:

Christian Maier

I spent many years in Michelin starred restaurants in France and London UK where I started in wine ‘by accident’. Upon arrival in Australia I developed my skills by focusing on oenology and was appointed as Sommelier at Hotel Sofitel Melbourne in 1994 subsequently being awarded Best Hotel wine list in 1997and the 2000 Age Good Food Guide inaugural award for Service Excellence.

I knew that drinking lots of champagne will get me somewhere when in 2002 I was crowned Australian winner of the Vin de Champagne Award.

Too many jobs in too many countries to mention but the highlights are from Head sommelier at Langtons wine bar to working as the Wine Director for the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria and finally landing the perfect gig at the University House.

I am also a senior wine judge and in the televised media, I have been the co-host of the food and wine segment on SBS television with celebrity chef Gabriel Gaté.

Belinda Wrathall
A hospitality professional of 20 years, the world of wine really took it's hold when I moved to the Mornington Peninsula for a Sea Change in 2015 and found myself working at a little winery called Trofeo Estate. Time spent tasting wine and learning from winemakers and sommeliers left me with a yearning to learn more. The city life drew me back and I have since gone on to study levels 1, 2 and 3 of the Wine Spirit Education Trust(WSET) and currently undertaking the WSET Diploma.
