Under the Canopy - the Story of Australian Rainforests tour

Escape the summer heat under the canopy of our Australian Rainforest Garden at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. Explore this garden with staff and our expert volunteer guides and visit rare and charismatic plants from Australian Rainforests throughout our living collection. Australian rainforests are ancient, dynamic and surprisingly resilient but need our help to respond to the challenges of introduced diseases, land clearing and climate change. Learn about the work our scientists are doing to better understand and conserve these biodiversity hotspots that make up less than one percent of the Australian continent. This tour starts within the Alchemy of a Rainforest exhibition at our Calyx Horticultural Display Centre. The Leaf Depot Cafe at the Calyx is open from 8:30 am. 

This is a walking tour, enclosed footwear is preferred and remember to bring a hat, suncream and a water bottle.

The tour finishes at the Garden Shop Visitor Centre in the centre of the garden.

 The Calyx is in the centre of the garden, approximately 5 minutes walk from the Woolloomooloo gate, 10 minutes from the Henry Lawson Gate and 15 minutes from the QEII Gate next to the Opera House. If entering via the Morshead, Palace or Conservatorium Gates on Macquarie st, participants are either required to work down a long flight of stairs or walk via the Greenway Terrace next to the Conservatorium of Music which adds an additional 15 minutes walking time.
