Understanding and Responding to Hoarding and Squalor

Time: 10.00am to 2.30pm SA, NT | 10.30am to 3.00pm VIC, NSW, ACT, TAS, QLD | 8.30am to 1.00pm WA
This training is delivered in two x 2-hour modules. You will receive a workbook prior to the online session facilitated by the trainer, Debbie Graham from Inside Out Recovery.
Module 1: Understanding Hoarding and Squalor (2 hours)
- Understand Hoarding Disorder (HD) and Sever Domestic Squalor (SDS)
- Explore the DSM-5 classification to better understand the behaviours, psychology and emotional attachments that underpin these disorders.
- Effectively identify the presence of HD and SDS to inform work practice
- Engaging and Establishing Trusting Relationships with Clients
* There will be a 30-minute break between modules
Module 2: Responding Appropriately to Hoarding and Squalor Situations (2 hours)
- Understand the behaviours, psychology and emotional attachments that underpin these disorders in the practical environments
- Effectively use Assessment Tools in inform work practice
- Explore support strategies
- Further training opportunities and resources.
About the presenter
Debbie has worked in the community services sector for over 25 years in a variety of roles including manager of large and small organisations, as a coordinator and team member. She has specialised in the mental health sector for approximately the last 16 years. She has been involved in numerous project work, including a 12-month project around hoarding and squalor and the systemic service gaps across Southwest Sydney. This is where her passion for supporting people living in extremely cluttered environments was born. She is a passionate advocate for people with mental health and has her own lived experience and a lived experience of hoarding.
She is the Director of Inside Out Recovery, a specialist intervention service for people living in cluttered environments which she started in 2016. She is also a trainer and counsellor, specialising in Hoarding Disorder, anxiety, depression, relationships, and trauma. October 2022, she was nominated and won the Most Outstanding Addiction Behaviour Counsellor in Australia and then was privileged to travel to London in November 2022 for the nomination of Most Outstanding Addiction Behaviour Counsellor in the World for 2022, which she won. She was again fortunate to win the same award in 2023.

- Not show the event in a group setting where unregistered attendees are present (you will either receive an invoice for the extra attendees or be removed and no refund given)
- Not make any recordings or capture the video or audio in any capacity
ACIA reserve the right to:
- Remove unauthorised participants from a session if no response is received by the unauthorised attendee within 10 minutes (by Zoom chat).
- Request all participants to turn on their camera

Notification of cancellation or transfer of registration must be by email to enquiry@acia.asn.au. No refund is available for any cancellations received five working days or less prior to the start date, however a substitute delegate is welcome. Please notify ACIA of any substitution as soon as possible. No refund or transfer will be given for non-attendance.
