Botany for Beginners
Event description
Join Hilary Pearl for a hands-on workshop introducing some of the characteristics used to identify and classify plants. You will pull flowers apart and make a mini-plant press. Through photos of key plant features, you will enjoy a visual feast of Sunshine Coast flora. We will focus on four key plant families: the Proteaceae (grevilleas, banksias), the Myrtaceae (gums, bottlebrush, lillypillys), Asteraceae (daisies), and the Poaceae (grasses - meet some of our stunning native grasses).
The workshop will run for two hours, with hand lenses and worksheets supplied. We will finish the workshop with an overview of the best local identification resources and books. Come and join us for this engaging and informative workshop.
