The World According to Dinosaurs is an interrogation of globalism through the lens of paleontology, world events, and what we had for dinner last night. A culmination of the stories we tell ourselves about existence. Facts, fiction, wives’ tales, white lies, myths, learnt behaviours, common misconceptions—it’s all part of the human narrative.
Two people go to their mundane job at a cafe on the final day of human existence. Character A wants to tell Character B all about the interesting facts they read online last night about dinosaurs. B just wants to get through the shift. As they bicker and work, the world falls apart around them. Watching the show is like going down a Wikipedia rabbit hole, from hyperlink to hyperlink.
The audience experiences a liminal space, theatrical in nature but inspired by the mental processing of information and thought. In an effort to convey the speed at which information spreads in our digital world, the audience will journey hand in hand with the performers through augmented facts, warped limits, and debunked information to discover meaning in human existence.
Advice to schools: Minor sexual references, some coarse language and mild mature themes including evolution and extinction.
About The Creators
Belle Hansen
Belle Hansen is a theatre maker, director and performer who has devised and performed new work with companies across Australia, including Queensland Theatre, Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre, The New Work Company, and Rawcus, and is currently an Associate Artist at Theatre Works. She is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Theatre) and is the Artistic Director of Frenzy Theatre Co. She is passionate about creating space for emerging artists to explore their discipline and championing the new voices of the future. Belle has performed in many notable programs, including at Malthouse Theatre, Rising Festival, La Mama Courthouse, Martin Myer Arena, and has had her work seen internationally.
Amelia Newman
Amelia Newman is a writer, theatre maker, and performer born in Melbourne/Narrm. Amelia has worked extensively with Riot Stage Youth Theatre and they have had their work presented at La Mama Theatre, Melbourne Fringe Festival, Northcote Town Hall, Arts House and Siteworks. Amelia’s debut play, ‘Younger and Smaller', is published with Australian Plays Transform and has been produced by schools across the country. Amelia is passionate about LGBTIQ+ stories and characters. Their work has a keen focus on mental health representation and destigmatization. They split their time between Geelong and Melbourne.
