Discover the upper Birrarung through a guided walk and collaborative art experience exploring how we can better care for the river and its Country.

Flowing through Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country, the upper Birrarung plays a vital role in the health of the entire river system. It provides important habitat for native plants and animals while holding deep cultural significance. Today, this remarkable landscape faces increasing pressures from urbanisation, affecting the ecological and cultural connections that sustain it.

Together, we'll walk through the landscape, slow down, observe closely and explore how the Birrarung is cared for today. Along the way, we'll consider how more sensitive, culturally informed approaches can help protect the river and strengthen the relationship between people, place and Country.

Following the walk, participants will come together for a collaborative art visioning session, using creativity to imagine a positive future for the Birrarung and reflect on the role we can all play in caring for this extraordinary waterway.

Whether you're interested in nature, art, culture or environmental stewardship, this experience offers a unique opportunity to connect with the Birrarung in a thoughtful and meaningful way.

• Most Riverfest events are free, and many have limited places with long waitlists. Please only book if you're confident you can attend, so others don't miss out. Bookings are limited to 2 tickets for smaller events and 4 tickets for larger events.
