About Creative Studio
Creative Studio is a regular monthly offering at SATORI EARTH, bringing artists, makers and creative practitioners together to share their skills, techniques and creative processes.
Each session is shaped by the artist facilitating it — their practice, materials, interests and current explorations.
The programme is initiated by Nic Anderson, founder of SATORI EARTH, who will facilitate the inaugural sessions.
Over time, Creative Studio will also welcome other artists and practitioners, creating opportunities for participants to explore different disciplines, approaches and ways of seeing.
Each month brings a different theme, medium or creative focus — from drawing and painting to sculpture, mixed media, mark-making, composition and experimental approaches.
No two Creative Studio sessions will be quite the same.
November Creative Studio — FUNGI
Facilitated by Nic Anderson | Visual Art
There is something inherently otherworldly about fungi.
Their extraordinary forms sit somewhere between the botanical, sculptural and imagined — grounded completely in the natural world, yet opening pathways into storytelling, symbolism and imagination.
In this session, we'll explore fungi and mushrooms through observation, drawing, shading, texture, colour and composition.
We'll look closely at their structures, forms and intricate details, learning techniques that help us translate what we observe into our own visual language.
Nic will work alongside participants, demonstrating techniques and sharing her own creative process as the work develops.
We'll begin with drawing and tonal exercises, exploring light, shadow, form and texture before moving into colour and more expressive interpretations using watercolour pencils and acrylic inks.
The intention is not for everyone to produce the same image.
It's to learn technique, develop confidence, experiment, and discover how differently each of us sees and interprets the natural world.
More Than Technique
At the heart of my work through Nic Anderson Earth is the understanding that creativity is one of the ways we reconnect with our inherent nature — our Soul Blueprint.
For me, art has never simply been about acquiring technique or producing something aesthetically pleasing.
It's a way of seeing, listening, exploring and expressing parts of ourselves that may not otherwise have an avenue for expression.
I'll teach and demonstrate techniques, but these sessions are also intentionally held as spaces for self-connection and authentic creative expression.
There is no requirement to create as I create.
Quite the opposite.
My role is to provide enough structure, technique and guidance for you to explore confidently — while leaving room for your own instincts, imagination and way of seeing.
Who Is It For?
Creative Studio welcomes adults and young people aged 12+.
No previous art experience is required. Beginners and those with existing art experience are equally welcome.
Younger participants should be comfortable working independently within a three-hour, mixed-age studio environment.
