VOICES OF HAKKA WOMEN is a video poem featuring the original poetry of 6 Taiwanese-Hakka women. Unique traditions and universal themes expressed in Hakka, translated to English (and 4 other languages) and voiced by actresses from around the world. Layered with imagery shot in Taiwan, it evokes the not-so-old custom of giving away daughters, adopted by other families, and often used for hard house and farm work.

The target audience are those interested in human rights, women's rights, multicultural and multilingual perspectives, poetry, Hakka oral traditions and culture, mountainous Taiwanese landscape, theatre, and food.

With the generous support of Hakka Affairs Council Taiwan and the Hakka Association of Queensland. Ya-Ling Peng is also guest of ISEA 2024 - International Symposium of Electronic Arts https://isea2024.isea-international.org

VOICES OF HAKKA WOMEN is an Award Winner of the Moondance International Film Festival, was selected for Her Vision Film Festival, Toronto's Asian Feedback Film Festival, and Women's International Film Festival, and received a Special Mention from Asia South East Short Film Festival, London.
