W4 Made Together
Description
Week 4 Made Together Bethany Nero
Most of the time we imagine creativity as a solo act, one person, one blank page, the pressure of being the sole author of whatever appears. This week we set that idea down and do the opposite. We make together.
This session is a shared, playful creative exploration, one where the work is not something any of us produces alone but something that emerges between us. Ideas are passed from hand to hand. What one person begins, another continues. The making becomes a conversation with no words, a game with no losers, and slowly a piece takes shape that no single person could have planned or predicted. There is a particular delight in this, in letting go of ownership and discovering what a room can make when it stops holding back.
Something shifts when we create this way. The self consciousness that so often sits between us and the making, and between us and each other, begins to dissolve. You cannot get it wrong, because there is no right, only the next mark, the next offering, the next surprise. People who arrived as strangers find themselves inside the same unfolding thing, laughing, building, responding. For some this arrives as pure play, a lightness that has been waiting for permission. For others, a quiet realisation of how good it feels to be part of something larger than your own effort. We do not prescribe the experience. We hold the space for it.
And this is where the quiet heart of the term comes most fully into view. To make together is to feel, directly and unmistakably, that creativity was never a solitary act. Every mark answers another. Every offering changes what comes next. The piece that emerges is a living record of a group in relationship, proof in colour and line that we are shaped by one another, that the self is never really separate from the web it belongs to. What we make together, we could only ever have made together.
You do not need any experience, or any confidence, or any idea of what you are doing. You just need to be willing to play, to offer something and see what comes back. Come and make with us. You will leave with more than you brought.
A note on prices and sustainability of the program
Our commitment is to make this program accessible to everyone in our community regardless of an individual's financial situation. However we don't want payments to be a barrier to participation in the program, if you are in financial hardship please reach out to Mowana and arrangements can be made.
We also strongly believe that our facilitators who dedicate their lives to their crafts should be fairly compensated for their services. If you can afford more than the minimum ticket price, your generosity will contribute to the program's ongoing sustainability.
