W5 A Sound Journey
Description
Week 5 A Sound Journey with Vanessa Fernandes and Nic Robertson |
There is a reason we come back to sound.
Earlier in the term we set the making down and let ourselves be worked upon by vibration, and something loosened that words could not have reached. This week we return to that ground and travel further into it, this time in the hands of Vanessa Fernandez and Nic Robertson of Stellar Sound.
Vanessa and Nic bring live voice, tuning forks, gongs and shamanic sound into spaces of connection across the Northern Beaches. Both are musicians who found, somewhere along the way, that sound holds a deeper potential than performance. It is a way of tending to the body and the nervous system, of clearing what has gathered and tuning a person back toward their own natural rhythm. What they offer is not a concert to observe. It is a journey you lie back into, where the only task is to breathe and receive.
As the sound moves through the room, the thinking mind loosens its grip and the body is given permission to speak in its own language. The nervous system softens. What has been held begins, quietly, to move. For some this arrives as the deepest rest they have felt in weeks. For others something older stirs and asks to be met. We do not prescribe the experience. We hold the space for it, and how far you go is up to you.
And then there is the door this opens. When the nervous system settles, creativity returns of its own accord, because the two were never separate. The same softening that lets sound move through us is the softening that lets us make, and lets us meet one another without the usual armour. Something in the space between people settles. Strangers rest inside the same field of sound and are, briefly, no longer strangers. This is the quiet argument of the whole term made audible: that coming back to ourselves and coming back to each other are one movement, not two.
Come as you are nothing required but a willingness to let go. The sound will do the rest. (PLEASE BYO YOGA MAT AND CUSHION)
A note on prices and sustainability of the program
Our commitment is to make this program accessible to everyone in our community regardless of an individual's financial situation. However we don't want payments to be a barrier to participation in the program, if you are in financial hardship please reach out to Mowana and arrangements can be made.
We also strongly believe that our facilitators who dedicate their lives to their crafts should be fairly compensated for their services. If you can afford more than the minimum ticket price, your generosity will contribute to the program's ongoing sustainability.
