Catholic response to modern slavery
Event description
Please join us to celebrate the annual submission of Catholic Modern Slavery Statements with special guest speaker, Moe Turaga.
Moe Turaga is a survivor of modern slavery in Australia, consultant to the Australian Catholic Anti-slavery Network (ACAN) and Domus 8.7 Remediation Service Advisory Committee member.
For the last seven years, Moe has been telling his powerful personal story to advocate for responsible business practices to reduce the risk of modern slavery to people.
Moe first shared his story at the parliamentary inquiry that led to Australia’s Modern Slavery Act. Since then, he has become a key voice for survivors in conversations about Australia’s modern slavery response. He speaks regularly to corporate governance audiences.
In 2024, Moe received a commendation from the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner. Moe is actively engaged with vulnerable workers in horticulture, meat processing, hospitality and aged care including workers on the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme.
