Event description
Join COTA (Council on the Ageing) Tasmania us as we come together with communities around the world to combat elder abuse.
Preventing elder abuse is a critical issue:
- One in six people experience elder abuse.
- Psychological abuse, including coercive control, is the most common, followed by other forms such as neglect, financial, physical, and sexual abuse.
- Abusers are typically someone the elder knows.
- Only one-third of victims seek help.
- Ageism is a primary driver of abuse.
