Wednesday Talks // Tom Moore
Description
Join us for a casual Wednesday Talk with Tom Moore.
Tom Moore has designed and made peculiar glass characters for more than 30 years, hoping to imbue them with subjectivity, relatability and agency. The aim of his practice is to defy gravity and to melt the coldest heart.
After graduating from Canberra Art School in the mid ‘nineties, Tom joined the intensive training program at JamFactory, headed by Nick Mount. While working on large production teams, making bottle after bottle, Tom began to feel truly connected to the history of glassmaking.
Later, Tom was employed for 15 years as Production Manager at the Jam, continuing intensive manufacture and prototyping of glass tableware, trophies, corporate gifts and antique repairs. During this time Tom helped to train many Associates in glass design and production within a vibrant community of makers.
Meanwhile, Tom developed his own elaborate and idiosyncratic glass works… adapting ancient processes in the pursuit of surprising new visions.
Tom combines media through collaboration with digital photographers and animators, and alongside his wife Rosie, constructs elaborate exhibition scenery akin to dreamscape dioramas.
In 2026, Tom has enjoyed working as a Studio Mentor to the Glass Studio Associates at JamFactory.
