Event description

6 Week Course: Freestyle Pottery Hand Building Classes with Alison Lowe

Sign up now for these informal classes where students can bring their ideas and work on them over a period of 6 weeks during which your tutor Alison Lowe will be available to take you through the processes. These classes will suit students who have a project that would take some time to complete or wish to expand on previous learnings from earlier clay workshops. Suitable for adults and teens 14+, complete beginners are most welcome. Examples of what could be created:  a garden stack (totem pole), garden sculpture, smaller decorative pieces or bring along ideas of things you have seen and would like to make!

Included in your course fee is a starter pack of clay, basic glazes and firing costs.

Each student will be given a starter pack of clay, and then additional clay can be bought via the tutor at cost price. This allows for students differing requirements dependent upon what they wish to make. Orders will be taken at class in preparation for following week (courier fees to be paid by students if they are requiring clays not available locally).

Underglazes and clear glaze will be available. Students will be given details of suppliers of glazes should they wish to pursue a wider range of glazes. (These need to be verified as suitable for clay and firing schedules by the tutor, Cone 5/6 only).

Firing costs are also incorporated into the fee however there will not be availability for firing of items not completed in the class. All clay and glazes used by students must first be verified as suitable for high firing (Cone 5/6) by the tutor. Damage caused to kiln by students work will be charged to the students. Students with pieces not fitting in with the above requirements will be directed to facilities that provide firing at a charge e.g. Mystery Creek Ceramics, Waikato Society of Potters.

This 6 week course is $340 per person (+ booking fees of $10.50) Running Sundays 12-4pm starting 18th May until the 22nd June.  After the initial starter clay pack, you will be able to purchase additional clay directly from the tutor as you work on your project(s). Classes will take place at the Referee Rooms (next to the Tiger’s Sports Club) on Island Reserve, parking at the end of Rangipare Street.

Contact me if you would like to make the payment in parts - conditions apply - must be fully paid prior to the start of the course. Email: otocreativeconduit@gmail.com
