Event description

Weekend Workshop: Pastel Skills with Maxine Thompson

Come and learn from a tutor with over 34 years’ experience working with soft (chalk) pastels.

Maxine Thompson is a generous tutor whose demonstrations will equip beginners to advanced students to do a variety of exercises over the weekend.

Day one will involve demonstrations and exercises for example: applying pastel to suitable papers, different strokes for effects, colour mixing, layering to create texture.

Subjects can range from hand-held flowers, glass still life, landscape: sky, distance, trees and shiny stuff.

Transferable skills across all art forms include shadows/light, perspective, contrasting tone, texture and observation in still life subjects all while having fun throughout the lessons!

Day two will be time spent on the students chosen subjects including portraiture which is her forte. Maxine’s experience means she is able to cater for very beginning students while extending intermediate to advanced students in areas of their choosing.

Maxine Thompson has Master Pastelist Status in Australia and New Zealand so we are very fortunate to have a tutor of this level.

BYO Lunch, snacks and drink bottle. A materials list will be supplied after booking and some items are available to purchase or hire from Maxine during the workshop.

Workshop is $235 per person (+ booking fee of $7.35) - Running the weekend of March 1st & 2nd. Class will start setting up at 8:30am with a 9am start, finishing at 4pm each day Workshop will take place at the Ōtorohanga Museum, 15 Kakamutu Road, Ōtorohanga.
