Weighted Toys
Event description
Calling grandparents, caregivers, aunties & uncles and anyone who has kids in their life! We have a fun workshop where you get to make weighted toys - a great idea for Christmas presents!
Lesley Ottey from Eco Educate rescues toys that would otherwise end up being dumped (op shops get too many & they can't sell them). Once she's washed them, they can be repurposed into something else. At this workshop you'll learn how to turn an unwanted toy into a lovely, useful, weighted toy.Â
Weighted toys can be highly beneficial, especially for children (or adults) with sensory processing needs, ADHD, or anxiety. The added weight provides deep pressure stimulation, which can have a calming effect, helping to reduce stress, improve focus, and regulate sensory input. These toys can promote a sense of security and comfort, aiding in emotional regulation and self-soothing. Weighted toys can also enhance concentration and are a simple, non-invasive way to support sensory needs and promote relaxation.
Head along to the education centre on Range St. for a fun morning in the good company of others. Please register as minimum numbers are required for the workshop to run and we have a maximum of 12 places.Â
The workshop is FREE and all toys and materials will be provided.
