Event description

While You Were Sleeping Volume 2 is a showcase of contemporary First Nations artists from multi-disciplinary backgrounds including street art, fine art, photography, illustration, digital, sculpture, film and more.

Presented by Kambri at ANU, and curated and produced by aMBUSH Gallery, the group exhibition opens on 19 May at aMBUSH Gallery Canberra.

In 2019, While You Were Sleeping Volume 1 launched the gallery, and in May 2022 it’s back with a brand-new presentation of artists from around Australia, whose art examines the joys and despair of the quest to secure recognition, equality and respect for the First Nations culture, heritage and people.

Featuring over 25 artists – including Kait James, Kent Morris, Richard Young, David Cragg, Noni Cragg, Alex Bird-Fox, Judith Crispin, Emma Hollingsworth and Wayne Quilliam – the works are across a range of disciplines and mediums, including painting, illustration, sculpture, photography and mixed media.

All artworks on display will be for sale, with the exhibition running daily from 10am-6pm weekdays and 12pm-5pm on weekends until Sunday, 31 July, free of charge to the public.

Opening night at aMBUSH Gallery Canberra (Kambri at ANU) is on Thursday, 19 May from 6-8pm, with drinks from Capital Brewing Co., Lerida Estate and music from a local DJ Lucky Wheeler.

Please note that aMBUSH Gallery is a Covid-safe venue operating according to current government rules and regulations, and density limits will apply.
