Government Relations 101

With Matthew Hingerty

Join us for our next Wild Fig breakfast as we welcome Matthew Hingerty, one of Australia’s most experienced professionals in communication and government relations.

In this engaging session, Government Relations 101, Matthew will unpack one of the least understood yet most important aspects of business — how to effectively engage with government. Drawing on a lifetime of experience working at the intersection of business and policy, he brings a practical and refreshingly straightforward approach to a topic that is rarely taught, but highly valuable.

Through insights drawn from his work and his book The Naked Lobbyist, Matthew will share simple, real-world strategies to help business owners better navigate government, build relationships, and position themselves more effectively in a complex landscape.

Matthew’s career spans senior roles at both Federal and State levels, including serving as a Ministerial Chief of Staff, as well as CEO of leading government relations consultancy Barton Deakin. He has also led a number of industry bodies and now serves as Head of Business Development at Star Scientific, based here on the Central Coast.

This promises to be a practical, insightful and highly relevant session for anyone looking to better understand how government decisions impact business — and how to engage more effectively as a result.
