Winter Solstice Festival
Event description
The Winter Solstice Festival is back for 2024!
Join us for our annual Winter Solstice Festival, a celebration steeped in multicultural tradition as a time for renewal, reflection and reverence for the Earth's natural cycles.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Northey Street City Farm, so we'll be weaving in tales of connection & exploring the threads that connect Plants, People, and Permaculture.
Step into a world of connection and contemplation on the longest night of the year. Immerse yourself in permaculture talks, gardening workshops, thought-provoking panel discussions, arts, markets and activities for the whole family. Our pop-up markets will offer an array of culinary delights and dining experiences, a true reflection of the diverse flavours of our community.
When the sun goes down, join us for a crackling bonfire, solstice ceremony and our annual lantern parade.
Workshop themes and discussions include:
Hannah Moloney (Good Life Permaculture, Gardening Australia) 'An exploration in community, connections and our collective power to do good in the garden and beyond'
Jerry Coleby-Williams (Seed Savers, Gardening Australia) Jerry shares his formula for success, linking recipes he can cook, to meals he likes eating to crops that he grows in his 300m2 garden.
Bruce Gululai Phillips (Murri Tukka) - 'Bush Tukka Talks & Tastings' share and taste the original plant foods of the First Nation peoples.
Gavin Hardy (NSCF head of Adult Education) Discover the Farm’s hidden spots and lesser know places on a guided city farm tour with Gavin Hardy.
Panel discussion with Morag Gamble (Permaculture Education Institute), Guy Ritani (PermaQueer) and Dominique Chen (Walking Story)
AND MANY MORE!
