Witches in Greek Mythology: Reframing the Narrative
Event description
Join us for an engaging artist talk that explores the archetype of the witch in Greek mythology through a feminist lens. Powerful figures such as Circe and Hecate are reimagined and reclaimed, with their stories brought to life through movement, sound, and materiality. Witches in Greek Mythology: Reframing the Narrative is an artist talk led by choreographer Iris Athanasiadi and scenographer Olga Ntenta (Performing Materialities). Inspired by their latest dance work Witching, the event delves into the myths of women from ancient Greek mythology —Circe, Medea, and Hecate—who have long been misunderstood and cast as witches or villains.
Using movement, sound, and material elements, Iris and Olga uncover the strength, complexity, and resilience of these figures, highlighting their enduring power and relevance in contemporary feminist discourse.
This talk offers a behind-the-scenes insight into the creative development of Witching, bridging ancient mythology with present-day conversations around identity, feminism, and resistance.
The talk is followed by a Q&A session.
