WiTWA & UWA/WAM Movie Night - Picture a Scientist

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Described as “Quietly Devastating” and “Confronting”, PICTURE A SCIENTIST chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights.

If you ‘ve ever wondered why female scientists are still a minority, this eye-opening documentary sheds light on the personal histories on these 3 women of science. Be warned, some of their experiences are quite confronting and explicit shows of harassment and gender bias.

Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries - including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists - who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.

Mini Mentors / Mentees

We are excited to offer our "Mini Mentor" program as part of our event. Our “Mini Mentor” program offers those who are attending the event to also build their network by volunteering as either a mentor or a mentee.

Mini Mentees can be uni students, parent returning to work, new to the industry (or Perth Tech Scene), upskilling, reskilling or looking to connect with more people in Tech.

Mini Mentors work in various roles in Perth Tech+ - including Technical, Management, Project Management, Account Management etc and across many industry streams. We have been delighted with the generosity from the community in the past with a lot of amazing people who have volunteered to be “Mini Mentors”.

The program will allow you to kick off before the event with one on one time with a paired mentor/mentee to share more about you, your passion for tech+ and build a connection (we will help you along the way). Once the event starts you can then choose to network or continue your discussions.

If you want to participate as a mentor or mentee simply purchase a Mentor or Mentee ticket to this event.
