Moats, Not Pitfalls: How Founders Turn Data into Equity
with Pia Turcinov AM
Data is often a startup's hidden superpower—but without the right strategy, it can quickly become a compliance liability rather than a competitive advantage.
In this practical breakfast session, Pia Turcinov AM, General Partner at Fund WA, shares an investor's perspective on what makes data truly investable. Rather than a technical deep dive, Pia explores the difference between building a strong data moat that protects your market position and falling into common early pitfalls that can quietly erode business value.
Whether you're building a startup, leading innovation within an organisation, working with data, or simply curious about how investors think, you'll leave with practical insights into protecting your ideas, strengthening your business, and creating long-term value.
🌟 Meet the Speaker
Pia Turcinov AM is a respected technology leader, investor, lawyer, and one of Western Australia's strongest advocates for innovation and women in STEM.
A former Chair and current Ambassador of WiTWA, Pia brings more than 30 years of legal, commercial, and corporate leadership experience. Today, as General Partner and Director at Fund WA, she works closely with early-stage companies with global ambitions, helping founders navigate growth, investment, and commercial success.
She also serves on the WA Science and Technology Council and numerous boards across the technology, health, education, and energy sectors. Widely recognised for her contribution to innovation and entrepreneurship, Pia has become one of the state's most influential voices in the startup ecosystem.
This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from someone who has helped shape Western Australia's innovation landscape—and to ask your own questions during networking afterwards.
