Calling First Nations Women in Business across the Torres Strait Region!
Join this FREE two-hour community consultation on Thursday Island and help shape the future of business support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. IBA wants to hear about your business journey, aspirations, challenges and experiences accessing business support, mentoring, coaching, networks and finance.
Whether you’re an established business owner, starting a business, have a side hustle or hobby, have a great business idea, or are simply interested in exploring entrepreneurship, your voice matters. Facilitated by Melisa Drummond-Anderson of BLAQ DIAMONDS Women Empowerment, this culturally respectful and supportive yarning session is part of IBA’s Strong Women Strong Business initiative.

- 1. Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women based on Thursday Island and surrounding Torres Strait Islands. Women at all stages of their business journey are welcome—from established business owners to women with a business idea, hobby or interest in starting a business.
- 2. Is travel to the workshop provided?
No. Participants are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel costs to and from the workshop on Thursday Island.
- 3. I live in the Northern Peninsula Area (NPA). Can I attend?
Yes. Women travelling from NPA communities are welcome to register; however, participants must arrange and cover their own travel, ferry and associated costs to attend the workshop on Thursday Island.
- 4. Will food and refreshments be provided?
Yes. Light workshop refreshments will be provided for registered participants. Please advise us of any dietary requirements when completing your registration.
- 5. Will childminding be available?
No. Unfortunately, childminding will not be available during the workshop. Participants will need to make their own childcare arrangements before attending.
- 6. Is there a cost to attend?
No. The workshop is FREE to attend, but registration is essential as places are limited.
- 7. How long is the workshop?
The consultation workshop will run for approximately two hours on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
- 8. Do I need to already own a business?
No. You might already own a business, be starting one, have a side hustle or hobby you'd like to turn into a business, have an idea you'd like to explore, or simply be interested in entrepreneurship. All stages of the business journey are welcome.
