Event description

Join Landcare ACT for nature connection walks in Autumn as part of Women in Nature - a program supporting women from all walks of life to come together and connect with nature for health and wellbeing. Landcare ACT's Women in Nature program is supported by a community grant from ACTEWAGL.

Personal and planetary health are deeply intertwined, but increasing urbanisation and time spent on devices can leave us feeling estranged from the natural world. For these reasons, it's important to carve out time to intentionally restore our connection with nature. Nature connection pertains to our emotional and psychological relationship with nature. Cultivating nature connection has been shown to support mental and physical health, whilst fostering a deeper sense of meaning, purpose and fulfilment contributing to overall quality of life.

Devote your attention to the natural world in all its interconnected beauty. Gather in the restorative surroundings of The English Garden. This guided walk is an invitation to set aside your thinking mind and come into your feeling body, to slow down and activate your senses by practising the art of nature-connection through attentiveness and appreciation.

The Yarralumla Nursery was established in 1914 by Charles Weston, Australia's first Afforestation Officer to provide trees and shrubs for the developing Canberra. The peninsula of land on Lake Burley Griffin adjoining the nursery was subsequently developed into Weston Park. The garden is dominated by tall trees, cool shade, and the earthy smell of pine needles.

The English Garden is located at the end of Robert Bowden Grove in Yarralumla, next to the Yarralumla Gallery and Oaks Brasserie and opposite the Heritage Nursery. Look out for the Landcare ACT A-frame sign. This walk is graded easy. We will be walking on unsealed paths and venturing off path onto grassed areas at times.

Please wear enclosed walking shoes, sun protection and bring a drink bottle to keep hydrated.
