Women's Basic Bike Maintenance Class
Description
Everyone knows that it's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil, but why is it squeaking, how much oil and where?
Join us for this women only, hands-on bike maintenance workshop where we'll be covering everything you need to know to keep your bicycle rolling, including how to fix a flat tyre, and when you need to call in the professionals!
You'll learn the basics for looking after your bike with plenty of hands-on practice in a supportive environment with other women so bring your favourite bike with you and get your hands dirty with our guidance!
This course is commissioned by City of Boroondara and delivered by the professionals from Bike it Better.
What will we be covering?
ABCD check: the essential safety check before every ride. Practice on your own bike!
What part is that? - putting a name to the different parts of your bike. Makes it much easier when you do need to drop into your local bike shop.
Getting comfortable: how to set your seat at the correct height and other adjustments you can make.
What to do when you get a flat tyre; the essentials to carry when riding, how to replace a tube or patch it!
How to adjust your brakes, replace worn brake pads, and know when to take it in for repair.
What to do if your chain comes off during a ride.
How to clean and maintain your chain and gears, and when to take it for a service. Chain lube: what type is best, how to correctly use it, and how often.
Your questions; we'll have time for participants to work on their own bike, ask questions and get assistance and advice regarding safety checks and maintenance issues.
