    Event description

Coming together in a circle with your daughters and friends to weave baskets, an ancient craft, is not just enjoyable—it's deeply meditative and a genuine break from technology.

Immerse yourself in a day of tranquility, creativity, and nature at our gathering basket-making workshop on September 15th. Don’t miss this chance to connect, create, and unwind in a setting that celebrates female creativity and the calming power of nature.

Master the traditional craft of handwoven basketry in this workshop, where you'll use reed splints of varying widths to create a classic gathering basket measuring 10”x12”x6”. Throughout the class, you'll acquire all the necessary techniques to finish this aesthetically pleasing and utilitarian basket. Crafted from reed splints in different widths, the basket will also incorporate strands of hand-dyed reed, adding a touch of color and pattern to your creation. The workshop kicks off with a comprehensive introduction to the essential tools and materials, including rattan reed and specialized basketry tools. Additionally, you'll learn how to prepare the rattan reed by soaking, making it pliable and easier to weave.

Brenda, our experienced instructor, will guide you through the fundamental techniques of basket weaving, including building the base of a basket, over-under start and stop weave, weaving around a handle, and creating a rim and lashing. By the end of the class, you will have completed a stunning gathering basket, ready to take home and enjoy. You'll also leave with the knowledge and skills to further explore the art of basket weaving on your own.

Experience a day of creativity and community amidst the serene beauty of a private 60-acre farm at our upcoming basket weaving workshop on September 15th. Whether you're an experienced crafter or new to the art, this workshop offers a perfect opportunity to learn a new skill, express your creativity, and craft something both beautiful and functional with your own hands.
