Event description

This working group will focus on 'Embedding your Problem-Solving Culture'

Organisations cannot improve unless they consistently seek out and solve their problems. For most, that means undertaking a profound cultural change — which must begin from the top.

When a company engages its people in problem solving as part of their daily work, they feel more motivated, they do their jobs better, the organisation’s performance improves, and a virtuous cycle starts to turn. Such an approach can unlock enormous potential for the company and its customers.

So how can leaders tap into this hidden problem-solving capacity?

There is a clear answer to this.

Through a combination of blind spots and habitual behaviours, leaders can unwittingly impede the very changes they want to see.

There are five common traits that leaders need to develop in themselves as part of a conscious effort to build a problem-solving culture.

  1. Openness to talk about problems whilst eliminating bias.
  2. Willingness to SEEK OUT the problems, wherever they may be.
  3. Recognition that small problems matter.
  4. Commitment to a methodical approach to problem-solving
  5. Recognition that observations are just as valuable as data.

In this working group, we will explore:

  • What systems do you use to solve your problems (RCA, DMAIC, 5Why, Apollo, ICAM etc)?
  • How well embedded are these systems?
  • What are the most important elements of problem-solving to you?
  • Do you have a culture that hides problems, or exposes them?
