Event description

This working group will focus on Lubrication and Oils - Use and Analysis (Asset Lifecycle Series)

It is well documented that up to 80% of mechanical wear is caused by lubricant contamination and up to 70% of lost machine life relates to surface degradation.

Lubricant analysis provides a critical contribution to any Condition Monitoring program. It helps us keep our plant equipment operating efficiently by reducing the risk of serious or catastrophic mechanical failure due to degradation or contamination of the lubricants and by monitoring the wear rate of machinery internal component materials.

Lubrication Condition monitoring (LCM) is not only utilised as an early warning system in machinery but also, for fault diagnosis and prognosis under condition-based maintenance (CBM).

From another perspective, selection, storage and use of oils is critical to asset life extension.

For this working group in our Asset lifecycle series, we will be joined by Andre Jooste, Managing Director of Grantham Ventures Australia who will help us understand how this technology can support our goal of extending the curve.

About the guest presenter:

Andre has 35 years’ experience in the Petroleum, Mining and Manufacturing industries specializing in Lubrication and Industrial Ultrasound applications. He has an ISO Level 11 ultrasound certification and is a certified trainer.

Having worked in some of the biggest production lines, truck fleets and Petroleum facilities in the southern hemisphere, Andre has firsthand experience with how disruptive and expensive unplanned shutdowns can be. (companies including SABMiller, BHP, Total Oil, Shell, etc.)

Andre knows things do not always go as planned, but early detection and avoidance of plant problems is possible.

In this working group we will discuss aspects including:

  • Lubricant contamination
  • Wet particle analysis
  • Lubricant selection and storage
  • Best practice across the attendees
  • Your specific challenges.
