WORKSHOP | Poetry in Pieces with Sally Murphy (WA)
Event description
Unleash your inner rebel as you cut, tear and deface books, magazines and other found texts to create your own original works of poetry.
Sally Murphy’s latest book The Riding Gallery, based on true events, is a cleverly structured, multiple point-of-view story that includes poems created from newspaper headlines. In this workshop, Sally will show you how to use these newspaper clippings to create original found poetry (also known as cut-up poetry). You’ll learn all about the importance of structure, rhythm, and various poetic devices, as you playfully experiment with text from multiple found sources to produce your own original poems.
Recommended for ages 9 - 14.
