WORKSHOP | The Art of Comic Writing with Shane McCarthy (WA)

Learn from DC and Marvel comic writer, Shane McCarthy, as he explores the power and importance of character and theme, while also sharing his favourite writing techniques to really give your comics and graphic novels that extra kick!

Shane McCarthy has been writing comics professionally for over 20 years. His credits include Batman Legends of the Dark Knight, Star Wars, Batman Detective Comics, Deadpool Team Up and Transformers: All Hail Megatron. His original character Drift was developed into several Transformers comics series, featured in Michael Bay's 2024 feature film Transformers: Age of Extinction and even had its own McDonald's Happy Meal toy! In this 60-minute workshop, you'll learn pro-tips and strategies for how to write scripts and build exciting stories out of characters, their arcs and their relationship to theme.

Recommended for ages 12+.

Shane McCarthy is a freelance comics writer, whose work has been published internationally by the likes of DC Comics, Marvel Comics and more. His writing credits include Detective Comics (starring Batman), Batman Legends of the Dark Knight, Star Wars, Deadpool Team Up and Transformers: All Hail Megatron. Shane has been writing comics professionally for over 20 years (during which he was also an international dance instructor and performer) and presently resides in Perth with his wife and two gorgeous cats.
