Workshops to Green Your Verge

Event description

Greening through Community.

Take one of our informative workshops to get growing on your own verge!

Our home or work verges don’t have to be just grass and a tree. You can change them to be insect and bird attracting spaces, areas that cool our environment or beautiful features within your neighbourhood.

As temperatures rise due to Climate Change the bitumen and concrete of our roads heats up. On a 30-degree day you can expect hard surfaces to reach around 45-55 degrees. Only the coolness provided by plants, trees and bushes will help keep the heat at bay, help reduce CO2 and provide habitat for nature.

You can help by planting your verge and we are here to show you how.

Join our afternoon of short Plan Your Verge Workshops on Saturday 25 June.

Book into 1, 2 or all 3.

* 1pm - All about Plants

What kind of plants will suit your verge space?
Join Jason from Backyard Bushcare as he talks you through the basics of what native plants would grow best given your verge’s soil, the local weather conditions and the time you can realistically put in to tend your little verge space.

* 2pm - Fauna on my Verge

What kinds of insect and bird life can you attract to your verge? Let the folks from Bringing Back the Butterflies help you understand the conditions and needs of our native insect creatures. What attracts and what nurtures an ecosystem? Plus a quick guest spot on attracting birds into your verge space.

* 3.15pm - Design and Planting

So lets start to plan cooling your hood with Matt Jorgensen (Team Leader, Horticulture at City of Adelaide) in a structured workshop about planning, designing and implementing your verge garden.

Tickets to each short workshop are just $5 or grab a $10 ticket and stay for all 3 workshops.

---------------------

Plus there will be time for questions, conversations, and to start sketching and planning your own verge garden.

Use the time before, between and after the short workshops to check out our verge garden info and buy plants from Bringing Back the Butterflies (remember to bring along some cash).

Doors open at 12.30pm and close at 5pm
