    What's a story without conflict?

    In this Queensland Writers Centre workshop, you'll learn more about the critical narrative elements and writing techniques that will hook your readers and keep them turning pages. We'll explore the plot devices and structures that will help you increase the stakes and develop your characters - no matter your genre of choice.

      

    Learning outcomes

    Participants will learn more about how to:

    • Catch your reader’s attention with essential story elements
    • Make your reader care with strong characterisation
    • Make your reader worry with plot devices
    • Build compelling conflict into your narrative with a powerful plotting tool
    • Create irresistible suspense with writing craft
    • Satisfy your reader with resonant endings.

     

    Format

    This is a hybrid workshop with a focus on writing craft; it will be held in-person at State Library of Queensland and live streamed to an online audience via Zoom. This workshop is suitable for writers of all levels and backgrounds.

     

    About Geneve

    Geneve Flynn is a two-time Bram Stoker-, Shirley Jackson- and Aurealis Award-winning fiction editor, author, and poet. She has been nominated and shortlisted for the British Fantasy, Ditmar, Australian Shadows, Elgin, and Rhysling Awards, and the Pushcart Prize. She is a recipient of the 2022 Queensland Writers Fellowship.

    Co-editor (with Lee Murray) of Black Cranes: Tales of Unquiet Women and poetry contributor to Tortured Willows: Bent, Bowed, Unbroken.
