Yamel Cucuy: A Bilingual Reading+Screening

You’re invited to a LIVE dubbing of our filmed production of Yamel Cucuy en español (with English supertitles): It’s the opposite of a lip sync: You enjoy a subtitled, live screening of our 2024 production of Yamel Cucuy (filmed by Jose Lozano.)

Actors will read the text LIVE in SPANISH, accompanied by LIVE sound effects.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?:

Our award-winning show is headed to Chicago and Los Angeles this fall. (Those performances will be in English with some Spanish). Sin embargo, our company has ambitions to take Yamel to Spanish-speaking festivals, to Mexico and beyond, so we have created this Spanish translation to share here in Austin and eventually further afield.  

The cast is going to be away from their families and other jobs for a total of five weeks this fall. We have a goal to raise $4,000 to supplement performer and stage manager stipends. Can you help them out? Come in person to support, tell a friend, or donate.

Nuestro galardonado espectáculo se presentará en Chicago y Los Ángeles este otoño (esas funciones serán en inglés con algo de español). Sin embargo, nuestra compañía tiene la ambición de llevar Yamel Cucuy a festivales de habla hispana, a México y más allá; por eso hemos creado esta traducción al español para compartirla aquí en Austin y, eventualmente, en otros lugares.
