Yarrambat Community Emergency Exercise

Event description

Children are welcome! You don't have to come to both sessions!

What if a fire or a storm happened tomorrow? In the first few hours after any emergency, the local community are the first responders well before emergency services can arrive.

Let's get together with our neighbours and local volunteer responders to explore ways we can prepare our families and community. Come along to a discussion night where we'll talk through an emergency scenario and how we think we would respond. Then we'll put our thinking to the test with an interactive activity night that will be a safe simulation of an emergency.

All sessions are facilitated by Jamie Mackenzie from Red Flag Real Time Leadership Solutions, who has over 35 years of experience in bushfire and emergency response and also supports the Arthurs Creek Strathewen Bushfire Education Partnership (BEP).

The discussion session will be an opportunity to talk through an emergency scenario and learn from each other about how to prepare the community.

The interactive activity night will be a (safe!) simulation of an emergency, where you will get a text message and be asked to meet in a local public space to set up and respond to any issues that might arise. We will also have an opportunity to reflect on what we’ve experienced and learnt and identify what we might want to do next to better our preparedness for the next emergency.

Dinner and childcare provided at every session.
